Through our five senses, we receive information from our surroundings and process it through our cognitive skills. Our senses open the world before us and help expand the scope of our understanding at every turn. The first month of your newborn’s life is dedicated solely to adapting to the drastic transition from the womb. As he grows you will notice the basic maturation of the senses is completed: he recognizes the sound of his name, distinguishes between shapes and colors and between tastes and scents.
