When designing the nursery keep in mind that in a few years time, a bed will replace the crib as well as other furniture so make sure there is plenty of space. Just because you’re having a boy, doesn’t mean you have to go with a blue theme, unless you want to of course. Consider using pastel or tranquil colours to give the nursery a more soothing ambiance. It’s also a good idea to think long term about the décor you choose to save yourself from re-decorating every couple of years. When your child is old enough, they’re going to want to choose their own colors anyway so make sure everything can be changed later.

Aim to finish all your painting at least eight weeks before the arrival of baby to give plenty of time for the paint fumes to subside. Themes on the other hand are endless. You could go with a car theme, teddy bears, sports, animals, sea creatures or even boats. Have a shop around and see what appeals to you. But remember it’s always a good idea to purchase the furniture first, and decorate after.
