Nesting instincts, concentration problems, negative thoughts and, yes, gas. Discover the things no one tells you about pregnancy
The Things No One Tells you about Pregnancy
Pregnancy is more complex than what you might have thought. In order to better prepare yourself for this significant period in your life, here is a short list of symptoms and phenomena you might be experiencing, and might not have heard about:Nesting instinct
When you are pregnant, you are likely to get into a cleaning and organizing craze, without even noticing. In your subconscious, you want to prepare the house so it will be as welcoming as possible for the new member of the family, just like a bird preparing its nest for its chicks. Often, pregnant women suddenly start cleaning places in the house that they have never cleaned before. Among other peculiar tasks, some women even start organizing objects around the house by color.
Concentration problems
The ability to concentrate and even remember things often decreases, especially during the first few months of pregnancy. This is due to hormonal changes and due to subconscious mental changes telling you everything other than your pregnancy is insignificant.
Emotional rollercoaster
Due to increased hormonal activity, mood swings are an inseparable part of almost every pregnancy. A pregnant woman can easily yoyo between a great mood and total depression. At one moment you may be the nicest person in the world, only wanting to hug and kiss your husband, and a moment later – all hell breaks loose.Negative thoughts
Pregnancy is not all about excitement and happiness in a new member to the family. During your pregnancy, you are likely to have thoughts you didn’t imagine would ever cross your mind. Fear and doubt become close companions. Worries about your relationship with your partner, your future baby’s health, and your capability of being a mother start keeping you up at night.
Apathetic husband
For women, the pregnancy is a romantic and emotional period, and they usually expect their husbands to feel the same way. But unfortunately, this is not always the case. Your husband might not be as enthusiastic as you expect him about feeling the baby kick, he may not always remember to ask about each and every detail of your routine doctor checkup, and he may forget what week of pregnancy you are in. Do not take it to heart; behaving apathetically does not mean he doesn’t care; he may simply be stressed out or forgetful. Talk to him and tell him how you feel.
Hair behavior
One of the more likely things no one tells you about pregnancy is that your hair might become unpredictable. Because of increased hormonal activity, your hair is likely to grow faster, and become somewhat oilier. In some cases the hair can even change its form during pregnancy; for example, if it was smooth, it might become wavier. You might start growing some hair in a number of unwanted places, such as your belly, your chest or your face. But no need to worry – These symptoms are expected to go away shortly after you give birth.Gas
It is uncomfortable to talk about, and therefore not talked about often, but thanks to very high levels of a hormone called progesterone during pregnancy, your body produces more gas than usual. In addition to that, the likelihood of constipation and hemorrhoids will be on the rise. So, prepare yourself for a challenging time with your digestive system!
These and other pregnancy issues are often less talked about, but are shared by many. Whether you experience one, all or none of these issues – remember that you’re not alone! Good luck!
